Summary
Bill Myer; arrived at Moore River in the 1930s; he lived at the Settlement at the same time as his life-long friend Edward (Ned) Mippy; went to school at the Settlement for a few years before being put to work at the Settlement store for six months; he then worked on the Settlement's farm at Shanaway with two other inmates where they attended to the garden and milked the cows; at the age of 13 he worked on a station near Meekatharra for 12 months on a salary of five shillings a week; he went on at least five droving trips over the next few years including work at Cue, Austin Downs and Braeside stations; he worked as a drover with Dennis Brown (half brother of Phyllis Mippy); he was away six or seven months at a time droving; after each trip he would return to Moore River and resume work at the Settlement, cutting wood and carting gravel, with other boys including Ned Mippy
