Summary
  • Made as a one hour television documentary, Into the Mainstream follows the Aboriginal band Yothu Yindi on its journey across America with rock groups Midnight Oil and Graffiti Man in 1988
  • "The Diesel & Dust to Big Mountain Tour" extends the theme of the thought-provoking album, "Diesel & Dust", by highlighting the parallel experience between the Native Americans in the Four Sacred Mountains area with the Australian Aborigines, who, from a different part of the world, have experienced theft of their sacred land at the behest of mining corporations in their search for nuclear fuel and other rich minerals ... The tour creates awareness of traditional and contemporary cultures. The music, excellent, with heartfelt issues at the forefront, from people who have lived it - people who are striving for self determination, reconciliation, justice and hope.
