Summary
The workshop at Kakadu aimed at addressing some of the issues surrounding the increasing number of people who are visiting art and archaeological sites in Australia. The meeting identified different groups of visitors each of whom has different reasons for visiting sites and may require different forms of managment, to reduce the damage to sites. The impact of the tourist industry on sites was recognised by all participants (including individual traditional owners, local Aboriginal associations and the regional Central and Northern Land Councils): as an issue of major concern,
