Summary
This phrasebook starts with a long introduction that explains a little about how Nyangumarta works - how it sounds and how its words and sentences are put together. It includes some do-it-yourself exercises to help you practise what you're learning. (The answers are all in the back of the book.) After the introduction, the phrasebook moves on to the four main chapters. Each one focuses on a different situation in which people often find themselves needing to communicate. The chapters are about meeting people and making conversation ('Having a yarn'), going to the doctor or clinic ('Keeping healthy'), transportation ('Going from place to place') and going to school. You will use these two parts - the introduction and the main chapters - together, flipping back and forth between them. You'll find lots of useful sentences in the main chapters that you can repeat word for word. When you can't find the exact sentence you need, though, you can use the examples in the chapters plus the information from the introductory parts to mix and match and create the sentence yourself! The back sections of the book include an answer key for the exercises in the introduction, a list of abbreviations, a word-by-word translation of every single Nyangumarta sentence from the introduction and each of the four main chapters, and a few extra charts and tables. You can look at these sections to check your work on the exercises, or to look for more specific information about a particular word or sentence
